Lessons of the Learning Leader

Upskill IT was established in 2020 to come alongside leaders and team members. We give advice on execution and create plans that accelerate productivity and motivation. As we observe team dynamics,
we will point out 2 thoughts for leaders in this post. First, as a leader, avoid the temptation of favoritism. Favoritism has several negative effects on the psychological capital and productive energies of the team.
Unfortunately, favoritism is typically exacerbated in office environments where nepotism is common. Psychological and behavioral capital is essential to a productive work environment, and withdrawals, such as bitterness as it pertains to promotions and income disparity will negatively affect productivity.

The next thought can be a natural outcome of engaging in favoritism. When people are put into positions that they are unfit for, they tend to hide, thus creating uncertainty about roles and responsibilities. Upskill IT promotes clarity between leaders and team members in the context of a department that works together. When team members are not clear about what each other is doing, and where each team member is in the process, mistrust and bitterness quickly follow.

In conclusion, be the leader who avoids favoritism, no matter how tempting it is, no matter how likable one employee is over all others. Also, be the type of leader who promotes workers based on merit, promoting transparency and openness.
